On 20th October 2007, more than 8,000 Filipinos gathered at a bayside park near the Cultural Center of the Philippines complex in Pasay City and danced their way to a new Guinness World record for the world's largest simultaneous dancing.
The Filipinos broke Ireland’s record for the largest dance gathering. Reports said 8,072 men and women registered for the dance to beat Ireland’s record of 7,644 dancers in 2005.
Ranging from children to senior citizens, from professional dancers to aerobics regulars, the participants danced a five-minute choreographed number to the tune of a milk brand’s commercial jingle.
The event was for the launching of the Anlene Movement to promote awareness and prevention of the bone disease, osteoporosis.
According to a Reuters report, the Philippines is a country that loves to attempt breaking world record titles such as the Most Number of Women Breast-feeding Simultaneously (3,738 in 2006) and Most Number of Couples Kissing at the Same Time (6,124 in 2007).
