Best Universities in the Philippines

The University of the Philippines and the Ateneo de Manila University were included in the list of 500 best universities according to the 2007 Times Higher Education Supplement-Quacquarelli Symonds (THES-QS) World University Rankings.

UP ranked 398th in the 2007 list, or 99 ranks lower than last year’s 299th. Ateneo went up by 33 notches to 451st spot. De La Salle University appeared at 519th place, down by 127 from last year’s 392. University of Sto. Tomas placed 535th, down from 500th.

The annual THES-QS study seeks to measure comparative international university quality and a guide for students who plan to study abroad.

Harvard University topped the list, followed by a three-way tie for number two among Yale University, University of Oxfor and University of Cambridge. Imperial College London is fifth, Princeton University at sixth, University of Chicago and the California Institute of Technology are on a tie for seventh. University College London is at ninth spot and Massachusetts Institute of Technology is on tenth place.

The highest ranking Asian university is University of Tokyo at 17th place, followed by University of Hong Kong at 18th. Kyoto University is at 25th; National University of Singapore, 33rd; Peking University, 36th; Chinese University of Hong Kong, 38th; Tsinghua University China, 40th; Hongkong University of Science and Technology, 53rd; Nanyang Technological University of Singapore, 69th; Unversiti Malaya, 246th; Universiti Sains Malaysia, 307th; Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, 309th; Universiti Putra Malaysia, 364th; and University of Indonesia, 395th.
